The Embassy of Rwanda in Morocco, in collaboration with the Rwandan community living in the country, on Thursday, July 10, hosted the 32nd celebration of Rwanda’s Liberation Day (Kwibohora 32).
The event brought together more than 300 people including Moroccan officials, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society representatives, partners, and friends of Rwanda, all united in honouring the significance of July 4, 1994, when Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi and liberated the country from decades of ethnic discrimination and violence.

Ambassador Shakilla Umutoni recalled that 32 years ago, Rwanda endured one of the darkest chapters in its history with the Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed the lives of more than one million innocent people in just 100 days.
She stressed that this tragedy remains a universal reminder of the devastating consequences of hatred, division and intolerance.
She also paid tribute to the decisive role of the Rwanda Patriotic Army, under the command of President Paul Kagame, whose intervention stopped the genocide, saved lives and liberated Rwanda, paving the way for the country’s reconstruction, unity and renewal.
Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Kingdom of Morocco, who was the guest of honor representing the Moroccan government, congratulated the people and government of Rwanda on Liberation Day, wishing them peace, progress and prosperity.
"Morocco salutes the remarkable progress achieved by Rwanda under the leadership of President Paul Kagame,” the Minister said.
"Rwanda is unquestionably Africa’s success story, one that comforts Morocco in its vision for the continent.”
The ceremony was enriched by a vibrant performance by the Rwandan cultural troupe in Morocco, which brought the richness of Rwanda’s heritage to life through traditional dance.
Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy Rwandan flavors, including the country’s iconic Akabanga chili oil, tea and coffee.
