Sometimes, good photographs are never planned.
What began as a routine afternoon drive to Kigali City Centre to collect a camera lens from a repair shop unexpectedly turned into a visual exploration of a city in transformation. On a whim, I decided to carry my camera, a simple decision that soon proved worthwhile.
The journey, on Thursday, June 25, began in Gishushu and wound through Kacyiru, the former Kimicanga area, Sopetrade, Péage, Kiyovu and finally to Nyarugenge Market. On the return trip to the office, we took a different route, passing through some of Kigali's most recognizable urban landmarks, including the RSSB headquarters, RURA headquarters, Points Lourds, Kimihurura, Kigali Heights and back to Gishushu.
Rather than focusing on people or daily street life, this pictorial documents the buildings and urban spaces that are reshaping Rwanda's capital. As Kigali continues its ambitious redevelopment and modernization, new commercial towers, office complexes and mixed-use developments are steadily transforming the city's skyline. From established landmarks to newly completed architectural icons, each frame captures a glimpse of a capital city embracing growth while redefining its identity.
This collection is a visual record of an ordinary afternoon that became an opportunity to document Kigali's evolving urban landscape, one street, one building and one photograph at a time.
