South Africa’s Haydn Porteous claimed this year’s Barclays Kenya Open Championship title at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday.

Rwanda’s Jean Baptiste Hakizimana failed to make the cut after coming 116th out of 154 competitors after two rounds on Friday.

The 20-year-old Porteous claimed the Annual European Challenge Tour Nairobi meet at the expense of compatriot Brandon Stone, who was leading the charge by one stroke going in Sunday’s final round.

Stone signed off a three-under par 69 but Porteous joined his countryman at 17-under-par 271 when he closed with 68.

The pair headed-off for the par-four 12th where Porteous hit three-wood to seven feet and boxed the putt for a two to climax the two-man play-off battle in style to pocket € 32,000 cash prize while first runner-up Brandon walked away with € 22.000.

Rwanda’s number one Hakizimana failed to make the cut again, just like last year to finish in the 116th spot. He started fairly well on Thursday, carding 72 strokes on day one but ruined his own party on day two where he closed with 77 to shutter his title hopes.

Kenya’s Dismas Ndiza finished top among East African participants, claiming the 28th position and a cash prize of € 1.620.
