This is Part 4 of “More than she could ever imagine”, a series about an African Christian Hero called Adhiambo. Her life changed when she stopped helping her friend to steal and found joy in teaching children about Jesus and God’s love.
Adhiambo read a poster outside the school dinning room. A missionary named Louise who had come all the way from America was going to help students teach children about Jesus.
“Yes, I’ll sign up for that,” Adhiambo said as she scribbled her name on the list. She could hardly wait for the meeting.
She thought, ‘There must be many children who want to know about God just as I did all those years. They don’t know Jesus as their Saviour. I want to find them and teach them the way to Heaven.
Missionary Louise met every week with Adhiambo and 19 other girls. Near the end of the course, Louise said to Adhiambo, “Now its time for you to teach your first lesson. We’ll visit a children’s camp.”
Teach? Actually stand in front of lively campers with all those eyes staring at her? Teach a lesson mostly from memory. She felt her stomach churn.
How could she, “Couldn’t do anything right,” teach a Bible lesson?
Adhiambo faced the wiggly campers and silently prayed for courage. Her lesson should have lasted 20 minutes but she was too nervous she forgot some of the story.
Her hands shook. She felt her face grow hot with embarrassment. In only five minutes her lesson was finished!
“Thank you, that was a nice short lesson,” Louise said kindly.
Adhiambo sat down quickly. She wondered how she could ever do that again. But she did. The more she tried the more God gave her strength.
She taught many boys and girls how God loved them and how He wanted them to believe in His son. To be continued…
