A walk down memory lane: Going back to school

A few weeks ago, I went back to school, not to study, but to escort my niece to her school Sports competition.  I recalled my school days and remembered that my worst nightmare involved going back to school.

A few weeks ago, I went back to school, not to study, but to escort my niece to her school Sports competition.  I recalled my school days and remembered that my worst nightmare involved going back to school. However, I was only there to watch my niece participate in a volleyball tournament with other teams from surrounding schools.

While sitting in that hot and humid gymnasium, I realized that not much had changed.  There is just more of everything; more drama, more competition, more emotions, more comparisons and more effort.

There is a possibility that things are much tougher for kids these days. Today, the pressure is higher and the push towards success is even harder. This means that there is no room for failure.

In this era, teens have to be multi-talented to succeed. But what if one can’t measure up?

That is when some hard life lessons are learned.  As an uncle, it was no fun at all watching this happen to my niece.

All parents wish the best for their children, and they want them to have as many opportunities in life as possible in order to broaden their talents and showcase their abilities.

There are a lot of lessons to learn in life for my niece and other kids too. I know there are more obstacles for her to face during her education journey and when she joins the workforce.

I can only hope that she doesn’t inherit my negative attitude towards school. The good news is that she has the spirit –but that’s just for now!
