Ideal interiors:Decorating with rainbow colours

Last week I was in Mombasa and a friend of mine was opening a beauty shop, when she remembered that I was in town- she called me for help. I was deeply worried about my health and I needed something to do, so I went full throttle in helping my friend with the interior décor of her beauty shop.

Last week I was in Mombasa and a friend of mine was opening a beauty shop, when she remembered that I was in town- she called me for help. I was deeply worried about my health and I needed something to do, so I went full throttle in helping my friend with the interior décor of her beauty shop.

For some reason I needed to work with bright colours to deviate me from thinking of my illness. As I was thinking of the colours to use in this particular shop, something happened and all over a sudden it started to rain and the rainbow appeared. I looked at the rainbow colours for a long time and realized that I could draw an inspiration to work with the rainbow colours at my friend’s beauty shop.

Just in case you have forgotten the rainbow colours, they come in: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Rainbows are a cheerful, easy way to add colour to any room's decor. They fit well into a child's room but can work anywhere in a contemporary home, as well in places like the salon or beauty shops. They can contain bright, bold colours or muted tones that better suit any place going by the decor.

Rainbow colours can be used as key decorative elements in a room or just to add colourful touches in dull areas. In fact when I told my friend that I was going to use all the rainbow colours she looked at me strangely. But I told her to give me a chance to experiment, and if she did not like the end results, then I was willing to change everything. She agreed to my plea and I went down to work with gusto.

Just like my friend, one might think that seven colours are so much to deal with, but in actual fact they are not; they just bring out something new and exciting. This is what I tried to do with my friend’s beauty shop.

First and foremost, when decorating - the walls should be the first to be painted, or get any facelift that a person feels that they should. This way one will get guidelines of how to mix and match everything else. In this case, I painted the four walls in four different colours; red, orange blue and yellow.

Next we went to choose tiles that were going to the floor. I settled for flowered ivory and green tiles. These tiles completed the look and the feel that we were looking for, all before the furniture was brought in.

It is usually very difficult to get pieces of furniture that one is looking for, so we opted to go with custom made furniture that took five days to complete. The entire furniture was made of wrought iron. The cushion seats were done in striped ivory and violet. And one chaise lounge was done in plain orange- this piece of furniture was really striking.

A few accessories, like candles, flower vases and even a decorative bowl with white pebbles were all in order and in different colours

Lighting is another important aspect in interior décor. Since a beauty shop should be a place that calls for clients immediately they take a look inside, we made sure that the entire place was well lit, going with all the colours used- the place looked magnificent.

After all the work done and everything put in place, my friend was very happy with her beauty shop that she named it the rainbow world of beauty. I had never experienced such satisfaction in décor, but rainbow colours did that to me.

Rainbow colours should not be limited to beauty shops; even homes can be such a delight when these colours can be used in all the aspects of the décor; from the paint, to accents to accessories and furniture. Rainbow colour is the way to go if you need a change to experience the beauty of colours.
