With our U17 football team that came back from Mexico after the World cup, every teenager is embracing soccer. I heard two 12-year- old boys bragging on how they would want to improve their soccer skills. They said they want to become the soccer stars of Rwanda and prefer to emulate Lionel Messi of Barcelona.
Listening to their talk was amazing and showed that there future is bright based on their dreams and vision.
Some children decide to choose a sport to pursue when they are in high school. This kind of mentality hinders the perfection of the game or sport. It’s better to take on a sport at a tender age. One should love it and should never let others decide for them.
Although it’s a tough decision for the parents to let their children embrace a sport since they are scared it could hinder the child education, it’s also a child’s role to balance both activities. There is time for everything. Let time for school be it and if its time for sports then respect it. In other words ‘do the right thing at the right time.’
As a responsible child, you have to make a decision that is best for you. If you’re great at soccer but would rather play basketball because you think it’s more fun, then do so. However first talk to your parents and coach about it.
Girls should choose a sport as well; they have to get involved in any kind of sport because in this era each sport is unisex. We have seen women who have made it in the sports spheres.
A sport is meant to be fun thus healthy for the body. If there is a sport you really enjoy, take it on you never no you could be the next star for your country.
