A week prior to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, my services were hired by a newlywed couple to decorate their new home.
I asked the lady to prepare me a list of the things that she wants incorporated in her house in the décor them, and the top on the list was houseplants.
I asked her as to why houseplants topped her list, she told me that she likes Mother Nature and so her theme would be green so that every time she looked around it reminds her the gift of life.
Then during William and kate’s wedding, I saw trees in the church, because the bride insisted that she needs some life in her wedding by incorporating some plants and artificial trees, in her wedding theme.
Well, indoor plants are back in the world of interior décor. As much as house plants add some life into a home, you can only appreciate it if the plants you choose for your home will add décor and continuity to coordinate with the entire décor theme.
For instance, if you have a contemporary style, choose plants that have clean lines are sleek and have long, slender shapes.
The larger the room you are working with, the bigger and more numerous the plants can be, because a single small green plant looks lost in a large empty space.
Several flowering plants in a basket or arranged in small pots on the same table can serve as a beautifully colorful accent to a room.
Treelike plants have great importance in the sense of decorating.
Another great look is to group a number of plants in a single container for drama and an unexpected look. Use any large container, like a basket or tree trunk.
Remember to choose plants with similar watering needs. Try using plants from the same family.
For example, group different ferns together, or use the same plant with different color variations for more variety. If your color palette in the room is cool, choose plants that are dark green, not a yellow green.
Also the heights of the plants should graduate down in small increments. It will be ridiculous to place a six foot tree next to a short tree.
They can only look beautifully placed when the height of the trees are not on the either extreme side in terms of height.
Also, when these plants are put against a simple background, the image is always striking, so a plain orange wall background can be a good point of placing those in door plants.
However, you will be pleased by the whole picture only if there is harmony in the arrangement and color of the plants you have chosen.
Once you have learned how to take these things into account when choosing your indoor plants, you can let your taste and imagination plan the plant decor you have living in your home.
