Rachel’s Ramblings: Ex-boyfriends should be off limits to friends

A friend who knows absolutely everything about you anddoesn’t condemn or criticize you but rather corrects you when you are wrong and tries to guide you in the best possible way is a friend worth having. Why now would you compromise that sisterhood for a guy? Sharing is caring, especially when it comes to friends but that doesn’t mean as friends we have to literally share everything in life! There are way too many guys walking this planet for you to somehow end up with your best friend’s ex. Sure he is a great guy but he can’t be that great if he’s not with your friend anymore, now can he? If you ever gave her your shoulder to cry on every time he was a jerk, you might want to get yourself a shoulder too! I’m not saying it is guaranteed that he will cause you heartache, but out of respect for the friend you claim to love so much, can’t you fish elsewhere? Even though she can’t stand his guts anymore and could care less about what he does, it won’t go down well with her that he is now hooking up with you. In all honesty I don’t think you would like it either if an old flame was gallivanting around town with your pal on his arm looking like the perfect match made in Heaven! It is hardly as depressing as it is infuriating! I mean, you begin to imagine what went wrong with you guys and why on earth he finds her so adorable! Yes, I’m sure there was a time when he was dating your friend and you wished it was you instead. He was everything you’d dreamed your man would be like—kind, thoughtful, romantic, smart and funny. And some day you promised yourself you would get someone just like him. But for the love of God, did it have to be that very guy? Even if you imagine it will take you a century to find someone even remotely the same as this one, do not do it. If there is a part of you that cherishes that girl and your friendship is nothing short of tight, be a darling and look elsewhere. There is nothing as awkward as hanging out with him then when your friend comes around all of a sudden you feel the urge to leave. The way you jazz doesn’t flow in fact you hardly have anything to talk about anymore. The truth of the matter is, both of you will be feeling mighty uncomfortable. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t enjoy the fact that the guy I’m with has been with my friend. I would rather be with a guy whose ex girlfriends are nothing but strangers to me.
