Reflexology takes the pain away
Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure to the feet by using hands or utilizing specific thumb or finger movements. The technique requires the use of oil, cream or lotion based on a system of zones and reflex areas of the body on the feet with effects on the physical change in the body.
Marie Jean Uwishema has been sick for a period of sixteen years and has undergone several examinations to detect the root ofv her weakness but to no avail.
“I have gone to different hospitals and doctors but they could not find any disease. At one time they thought l had blood cancer depending on the signs and symptoms of my case because my whole body itches, and at times feel like I’m burning up with a high fever. When I’m about to faint, I first become weak in that I cant feel several parts of my body. My sickness is characterized of headaches, stomach aches and joint issues although after a specific period of time I get better,” Uwishema gravely narrated.
“Besides that, I got a lump on my right foot which was operated six times without getting to know what caused it. Even with the scan being used several times to detect the basis of my sickness, nothing was discovered.
“With my never ending sickness that when my brother told me about the Reflexologist at Sky Hotel in the Massage department and on December 11, 2010. I met Urban Ndatimana, the Reflexologist who massaged my feet and I felt better.
“I usually get attacks and faint while in the middle of nowhere in that people pray for me thinking I’m demon possessed, for instance I fainted in the bank today (December 14th, 2010) and I was rushed here. My children are making fun about the whole issue saying that people will think I’m a ghost when I go back to pick my Cheque book because I was carried out of the bank in a critical condition,” Uwishema said.
For three days Marie Jean Uwishema‘s condition has changed thanks to the skill of Urban Ndatimana, the Reflexologist at Sky Hotel who helped to releive some of the pain that she was going through.
“Depending on her situation, there could be a problem in the blood circulation in her body hence the itching and high fever symptoms. Each part of her feet hurts every time one tries to massage them, indicating that the nerves are not active thus affects the blood circulation in the body,” he said.
In the reflexology practice, techniques applied to the relevant reflex areas prompt a change in the related part of the body. The reflex areas include several parts of the body, the kidney reflex areas, the intestine reflex areas and the brain reflex area.
“Although reflexology is advisable for everyone at least once a week, I get more women clients as compared to men,” Ndatimana said.
Ndatimana considers it a special kind of massage and its Rwf3000 per session.
In general terms, the benefits of reflexology have to do with the reduction of stress. Since the feet and hands help to set the tension level for the rest of the body, they interrupt the stress signal and re-set the body’s equilibrium.
Reflexology is a complement to standard medical care because it creates relaxation, reduces pain, and improves blood flow. Reflexology work increases blood flow to the feet, brain, kidneys and intestines.
It also impacts physiological measures such as blood pressure, cholesterol and enhances medical care.
