Name?

Sankara Alex a.k.a Sankara

What is your stage name?
Sankara

When were you born?
27th July 1990

Have you finished school?
I finished my high school last year as a private candidate.

Who are you?

I am a born again Christian, loving both gospel and secular music, social and down to earth.

Why music of all things?

I am a talented upcoming musician. This is where my talent lies and I use this talent to spread a message. I chose music. It’s where I belong.

What new thing do you bring into the Rwandan music sector?

I am bringing in a new touch; a combination of our traditional music with a touch of RnB. This is what is lacking in our music. We try to copy someone else’s style but with me, it’s all going to change.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I get my inspiration from The Ben. This guy has a powerful voice. He is down to earth and very social. He is always willing to help even when he does not know you. He is the best musician in the world.

Is The Ben better than R.Kelly?

Truelly he is! How can I praise R.Kelly who I have never met? The Ben is the best!! Leave it or take it!!

Do you plan to continue with your studies?

I do. Every modern artist should be educated. That is why I am going to university soon.

Have you already done some songs?

I have done a hit with Christian called ‘Niwowe’. I also have a gospel song with the Jessy Girls. I am also working on a number of tracks so just keep your fingers crossed and time will tell.

What challenges do you meet?

First we have these so called big stars. They feel so big that they can not help an upcoming artist. I approached one and he refused to make a collabo with me saying that he cannot do it with me. Then we have one radio presenter who feels so big that he underlooks our work.

Any final words?

I would like to tell all people that we have talent in Rwanda. I would also like to tell all those so called established artist to stop feeling and help the underground ones to rise. Lastly we have the financial issues. Money is scarce!.

Every week we shall be running a story about a multi talented person. In case you trust your thing…do not be shy! Are you an upcoming actor, musician, model, debater or having any other talent that you think is worth mentioning…like eating? Holla at us and we shall be at your service!
