Saturday was the closing day for the National Tree-Planting week which began on Monday, November 16th.
During the closing ceremony in the Southern Province, the Environment and Natural Resources Minister, Stanislas Kamanzi called upon local authorities to carry on the tree planting campaign in their areas.
This he said will fill the gap of the desired forested area in the country.
Minister Kamanzi also urged the people to continue planting trees even after the tree-planting week was concluded.
He called upon schools and churches to plant trees within their respective areas to protect the environment and be able to cover 30 percent of land with forests in Rwanda by the year 2020.
