This joint looks like your average Kigali eatery, what makes it outstanding is the local fresh food that is served 24/7. Taste Food is situated at Remera opposite Alpha Palace Hotel next to Kobil petrol station.
The menu is relatively simple with the normal chips, chicken, rice, steak and that sort of thing, but before you ask yourself why the name Tasty Food when they hardly have anything on their menu that can pass or nears what we call food here in Africa, ask the waiter / waitress what else they have.
You will be surprised to find out that Tasty Food actually prepares the best katogo around! Katogo. Originally, conceived as poor man’s dish, today it’s one of the most cherished items on many menu cards.
The word katogo literally means a ‘mélange’ or mixture of ingredients with one absolute must have; igitoki (green bananas). The process of cooking is done in the manner of braising, in other words a combination of stewing and pot roasting.
If you want to take a break from French-fries and rice, check out this joint where the smell of traditional foods like green bananas (Matooke), sweet potatoes, cassava, posho and yams, served with beef or chicken stew, groundnut (peanut) sauce, beans or peas welcomes you. At this Resto they also do the rare ‘luwombo’ a delicious stew (chicken, beef or G.nuts) steamed in banana leaves.
In case this kind of food doesn´t appeal to your taste, the snacks definately will. Try out the various snacks like: Chapati, Sumbusa (meat or vegetable pie). Beef or cheese burger goes for Rwf 2000.
But above all, their prices are affordable and the portions of food are decent. However, if you are ubugali or sombe fan, Tasty Food may not be your ideal place.
I also loved their fresh juice; Sodas such as Pepsi, Mirinda fruity and a variety of other soft drinks such as Red Bull are available.
