A 70th minute equalizer from Yussuf Ndayishimiye a.k.a Kabish gave SC Kiyovu something to play for in the return leg of the Orange Confederation Cup preliminary round against Tanzania’s Simba.
After several squandered chances from Baptist Kayiranga’s side, the visitors broke the deadlock at the stroke of half time through Mwinyi Kazimoto.
The midfielder’s 30-yard strike was too much for Kiyovu’s number one goalkeeper Pascal Dukuzeyezu.
Kabish’s 57th minute goal was contentiously disallowed for offside by center referee Thierry Nkurunziza but the striker, who came on Rodriguez Murengezi at the beginning of the second half, restored parity with a powerful header 13 minutes later.
Both sides searched for a winner but could not find it. After scoring an away goal, Simba have a slight advantage ahead of the return leg which will be held in Dar es Salaam two weeks from now.
In the Orange Champions League, APR could not find the back of the net in a goalless draw against Kenya league champions Tusker at Nyayo Stadium.
Douglas Lopes Carneiro and Dan Wagaluka had chances to score but wasted their opportunities.
The return leg will be held in Kigali in a fortnight.
In other results, Manco Kaweesa, Sula Bagala and Augustin Nsumba were on target as Uganda Revenue Authority beat Correctional Services of Lesotho 3-0.
In Dar es Salaam, Amr Zaki saved Zamalek blushes as he scored the equalizer 15 minutes from time against Young Africans. Hamis Kiiza had given the Tanzanian champions the lead.
