RUSIZI — Officials of the public warehouses (MAGERWA) are urging traders in the Western Province, specifically those plying trade routes along Bukavu and Burundi to effectively use the Rusizi based Mutara Warehouse.
Last week, MAGERWA acting director general, Alloys Rusagara and other officials inspected the warehouse, in the process they held discussions with various potential importers.
While addressing the traders, Rusagara urged them to always transport their imported goods directly to Mutara warehouse instead of holding their goods at Magerwa warehouse in Gikondo, Kigali.
“We want to make Rusizi District a business hub through making Mutara warehouse more active and profitable. So, I call upon you as committed business operators in this region to encourage your colleagues from both DRC and Burundi to use this south corridor facility as one of the routes for their imports,” Rusagara said.
He assured traders that goods handling and transit services have been put in place since the beginning of May this year. He cited a Dubai based company, MCD General Trading as one of the big importers currently using the Mutara facility .
The company supplies its goods in the Western Province of Rwanda, eastern DRC and the northern province of Burundi.
The Rwanda Cement Factory (CIMERWA), he added, is also using Mutara warehouse mostly for effecting importation of equipment, including spare parts and materials for their expansion activities.
In a separate interview, shortly after the meeting, Rusagara disclosed that they plan to produce a promotional directory which they will freely distribute to businessmen in the district.
The Director General disclosed that the facility has been registering a profit of Rwf.800,000 per month which has since jumped to Rwf.1, 140,000, which is a sign of progress.
