Green Hills girls to take part in G20 Summit

Elodie Mumporeze and Ingrid Iriho, both students of Kigali’s Green Hills Academy will represent Rwanda at the upcoming G-irls 20 summit in France. (Oct 18-21). The G-irls 20 summit congregates teenage girls aged between 18 and 20 years, from 20 major economies and a representative or a chair of the African Union. It precedes the high profiled annual G-20 summit, where top Finance decision makers from 19 major economies and a European Union representative meet to discuss the world economy. The delegates of the G-irls 20 debate discuss and design new ideas for empowering girls and women at large, globally. THE Girl-Hub, a non-governmental organization working in Rwanda sponsored the girls trip. “We are happy to represent Rwanda to this summit. The fact that we are also teens, and girls, we know the problems girls meet and we are ready to share them at the summit for solutions,” Mumporeze says. Iriho notes, “It is inspiring for us. And I would like to remind girls to always endeavour to participate in decisions that affect them, right from their young age.” “We will be there for Rwanda, and whatever we learn from the meet, we will be honoured to share when we come back.” Phoebe Mutetsi, an arts editor at Girl Hub, told The Sunday Times that the two girls are part of their wide network of girls, whom they work with from around the country. Mumporeze and Iriho were chosen because of their good public speaking skills, among other attributes. “We use all opportunities available to give girls aged between 10 and 19 (whom we work with) a platform for airing their views,” Mutetsi said. “Girl Hub, among others, also publishes magazines, for which the contributors are girls aged between 18 and 23 years. We plans to start radio shows that will also focus on empowering girls.” Ends
