RELATIONSHIPS : Keep your promises

Many times, promises are made, not only in relationships but whenever people believe them necessary. However, making a promise is one issue and fulfilling it, another. It worsens and turns to empty promises when not met especially if no explanation is given. Promises have many forms, depending on one. Although some promises come as a result of continued requests, it’s also a fact that others are made based on personal desires.For that case, he who has been promised has all the hope for that particular promise. The state in which a partner turns to be when his or her promises are not met can be best explained by the victim. Beatrice Umutesi says failure to meet a promise needs an urgent communication otherwise many bells of different ideas ring in the mind of the partner. “Sincerely, how and why can’t my partner notify me in case he will not be able to do exactly like he promised?” she asks. She added that some partners make long term promises just to win others but with no motive of strengthening the relationship. “I hate men who promise expensive things and later fail to fulfil their side,” she said adding that in case failure is due to insufficient funds, inform your partner. And she advised people to promise what they can deliver. She says that a promise is a debt. “I assume that it is a well intentioned move but it also has an economic aspect.” She also noted that some men feel small to link failure to their economic stand. James, a businessman, admitted that some men make promises from the bottom of their feelings. He however stressed that at times promises are made due to certain specific conditions that can not be avoided. He explained that as one who loves another, it’s necessary to provide for their demands. In that case therefore when demands are made, one makes the promise in order to keep the relationship alive. “I must promise even when I do not have money so that I plan how to get and meet the promise,” he said. He added that failure can never be intentional but the time agreed when the promise is to be fulfilled is a point to note. Explaining further, he said that the time should be peacefully agreed upon not dictated like many do it. However, he said that although such circumstances when some promises are made, as a responsible man meeting his promises whenever he does is what he looks forward to. “I feel comfortable and a real man whenever I keep my promises, irrespective of the circumstances under which I make the promise,” he said. In the life we lead, often challenges may lead to failure in one way or the other. However, efforts should always be made to keep our promises.
