KIGALI - Christophe Bazivamo, the Minister of Local Government, has called upon members of the Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA) to focus more on improving the welfare of their citizens.
He was officiating the 12th Annual General Assembly of the association for which he also doubles as patron..
“The welfare of the citizens is one of the indicators of improved capacity in terms of leadership,” Bazivamo advised local leaders.
According to Bazivamo, members of the local government have to ensure that they promote the general interests of the public through cooperation amongst themselves.
He also expressed disappointment on the current state of corruption among local government officials.
Other issues that the minister tabled before RALGA members included the impact assessment of several activities carried out by the association.
RALGA was formed in 2002 as a result of the decentralization process and is meant to transfer authority, resources, responsibility and accountability from central to local government within the framework of good political and economic governance as formulated in the country’s vision 2020.
Although its birth goes back to 2002, RALGA was inaugurated and officially launched in 2003.
