The Secretary General of the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) François Ngarambe has called upon political parties to be more active in the run up of the 2008 elections.
Ngarambe who is also the Chairman of the Forum for Political Parties (FPP)-a consultative umbrella body for all registered political parties made the call on Thursday at the end of training seminar for political party cadres at the Prime Minister’s office in Kimihurura.
Four people from each political party attended the three-month training on best ways of working with the media.
“Political parties should not only work towards winning elections, but have to be active so that they can be voted on the basis of what they have achieved” Ngarambe said.
He urged political parties to desist from internal strife but instead be channels through which government development programs are delivered to the electorate.
“Political parties should be aware of the country’s social and economic problems and propose long-lasting solutions”, he advised, adding that they have a duty to mobilise people to take part in peaceful and successful elections.
He asked beneficiaries of the training to become good ambassadors to their colleagues since they were expected to train others. Twenty nine out of a total of thirty six participants successfully completed the training .
