The Rwanda National Police will today, July 31 launch its maiden book on the 20 year policing journey and its success story in the last fourteen years since it was established in June 2000 with the theme "20 Years of Policing a People."
The RNP was formed after merging gendarmerie National, communal and judicial police. The idea to merge the three institutions was to get rid of the duplication of functions that had hitherto bureaucratised law enforcement and alienated law and order organs from the rest of the population.
The book titled “Policing a Rapidly Transforming post Genocide society: Making Rwanda Feel Safe, Involved and Re assured” also highlights the history of Policing in Rwanda.
The launch will be held at the RNP Headquarters in Kacyiru and will be attended by various partners in policing, including top government officials, private sector, civil society and the community and schools representatives.
There will also be an exhibition on the evolution of Policing in Rwanda from the pre-colonial times through the post independence and post genocide Rwanda till today.
On the sideline of the launch there will also be an awarding ceremony where five districts, one in each of the four provinces and the City of Kigali that excelled in crime prevention through community policing will be given a vehicle courtesy of Rwanda National Police, Ministry of Local Government and One UN Rwanda.
