The Rotary club of Kigali Friday officially handed over the four domestic support projects it donated to Gisimba orphanage in Nyamirambo.
Addressing visitors, Damas Gisimba the head of the orphanage commended the continuous support the Rotary Club of Kigali has been giving to the orphanage. He underscored that at least he knows people out there understand and feel for the plight of orphans.
“We now know that our friends out there feel for us and are willing to give a helping hand to the orphans who have diverse needs. We are really grateful to our friends of Rotary club of Kigali for this support.”
The facilities which were put in place included installation of rain water harvesting systems, a pump to pump the water to the storage tank, rehabilitation of the laundry room, rehabilitation of their main water storage tank and installation of Rocket stoves in the kitchen.
“At last we won’t have to spend that hefty water bill; this money will be channeled to other welfare demands of orphans,” added Gisimba.
The well facilitated rain water harvesting system will save the monthly Rwf 25,000 bill it has been paying to Electrogaz.
Kigali Rotary Club president, Ndoba Mugunga, underlined that reaching out to vulnerable groups in activities geared at bettering their lives is one of the club’s sole obligations and that they take it as a priority in their undertakings.
He further pledged unreserved support to the orphanage anytime they need it, saying that it should be everyone’s responsibility to contribute to the plight of vulnerable people.
“We shall always be near when you need us, our desire is to see that vulnerable people like orphans can also have a good life,” Mugunga said.
Gisimba orphanage is a home to more than 180 children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and conflicts in the Great Lakes Region. The facilities donated by the Club were worth Rwf 2.3 million.
