Airtel, King Faisal Hospital donate to Huye survivors

Airtel Rwanda and King Faisal Hospital, Kigali donated groceries worth Rwf6 million to 200 families in Rusatira Sector, Huye District, as support to survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Among the items donated included 80 mattresses, clothes and an assortment of foodstuff and detergents. Speaking on behalf of the National Commission for the Fight against the Genocide (CNLG), Jean Damascene Nteziryayo, who represents the commission in the district, said the gesture was timely. “It’s a great opportunity for the survivors to receive support at a time when we are commemorating the Genocide. We hope it will play a crucial role in turning around the lives of recipients,” he said. Chantal ingabire, a beneficiary, said the donation meant a lease of life. “My family will for some time not sleep on empty stomachs…but beyond the food I have received, I thank them for taking time to be with us today,” she said. Dr Emile Rwamasirabo, the Director of King Faisal Hospital, Kigali said: “Like all Rwandans, it is our obligation during this period to support compatriots who were affected by the Genocide.” Jean Marie Vianney Twisenge, the representative of Airtel said the activity is a joint initiative by the two institutions and it will be conducted annually.
