DESPITE LOSING their last league match against AS Kigali, Gicumbi head coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga is determined to keep his team in the first division.
The Gicumbi-based side, which was promoted this season, go into tomorrow’s away clash against Espoir in Rusizi, needing six more points from the last four fixtures to be assured of another season in the top flight division.
Kayiranga’s team is currently in 11th position with 18 points, three adrift of Esperance, who occupy the last of the two relegation spots.
Speaking to Saturday Sport after his team’s 2-1 defeat against four-placed AS Kigali on Thursday, Kayiramga said, “Mathematically, we need six points in the four remaining matches and I am confident we have enough in our team to get them.”
“We have two matches to play away and two at home, so there is no doubt that we will try to get at least four points out of 12,” noted the current Amavubi Stars assistant coach.
He added, “Everyone is satisfied with our initial experience in the first division, the players are developing technically as days pass by. Our common goal is to maintain Gicumbi FC in the first division.”
Gicumbi’s last four matches are against Espoir FC (today) , AS Muhanga, (April 20) Marines FC (April 26), and Esperance (May 3).
Kayiranga was appointed as head coach of Gicumbi this season after months without a job following his shock resignation from SC Kiyovu.
Rayon Sports top the league table with 52 points; level with APR but the reigning champions have a better goal difference. Amagaju are bottom with 14 points.
