DEFIANT SC KIYOVU head coach Yaounde Gilbert Kanyankole insists his side is firmly in the race for this year’s Turbo King Football League glory.

Kiyovu are in sixth with 28 points, nine behind joint leaders Rayon Sports and APR.

Kanyankole says they intend to remain focused in the remaining matches, even as they mustered only eight wins in 16 matches they have played so far this season.

“We are still in the title race because any team can lose points. I am yet to rule out our team’s chances.”

“We know it is difficult. We’ve slowed down sometimes but we just need to raise the momentum a bit which I’m sure we will do in the remaining matches.”

He added: “After our loss to Rayon Sports, our players showed character when they bounced back and beat Gicumbi; it showed a great deal of maturity in the squad. I believe other teams will also make errors in the remaining matches. We just need to maintain our focus and believe in ourselves.”

“A lot can happen in 10 games. The league is tough and every week you come up against tough teams. Any team can beat any team. Even the teams at or around the bottom of the league can change things dramatically,” added the former Vital’o coach.

SC Kiyovu secured their eighth victory of the season through their new striker Gabriel Zigabe and Julius Bakkabulindi.

APR FC and AS Kigali shared the spoils with a goalless draw on Saturday to allow reigning champions Rayon Sport to storm the log summit.

Police were held to a goalless draw by Musanze at Musanze stadium.

Both Rayon and APR are tied on 37 points but the former enjoy better goal difference.

In the other related games played over the weekend, Amagaju earned three points after beating bottom side Esperance 1-0 at Mumena stadium to move ahead of Muhanga in the 11th spot but remain tied on 10 points with Muhanga who lost 2-4 to Rayon Sport.

Police, AS Kigali and Espoir are all tied on 31 points while a 2-0 win against Gicumbi put Kiyovu in the fifth spot behind Police FC.

Etincelles thumped Mukura 3-0 to move to eighth position on the log.
