Bill houses according to their worth

Editor, I would like to express my anger against landlords who just maximise profits at the expense of tenants. People are actually taking the house scarcity issue as an advantage in Kigali to hike rent charges regardless of the state of the house.

Editor,

I would like to express my anger against landlords who just maximise profits at the expense of tenants. People are actually taking the house scarcity issue as an advantage in Kigali to hike rent charges regardless of the state of the house.

This is mainly in Kanombe and Remera. As tenants, we would not mind paying whatever rent charges a landlord may wish to impose, as long as the house is in good state.

Unfortunately, most houses in these areas have very tiny rooms that even a double bed can not even fit. Many have mud wall fences and this leaves me wondering which kind of housing plan this is.

It is also amazing that rent for such houses is between Rwf120,000 and Rwf150,000 monthly. On many occasions landlords may over charge a tenant if they promise to re-paint a house before it is occupied! We want houses worth the money asked for.
