The national women team, She-Amavubi, will face Kenya in the first round of the 2014 Africa women championship which will be held in Namibia.
The draws, released on Monday by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will see Rwanda hosting Kenya in the first leg in the weekend of February 13-15 next year before the second leg a fortnight later.
Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Rwanda Football Federation Chairman Celestin ‘Abega’ Ntagungira said the fixtures were released at the right time – when the federation is planning to summon members of the national team.
“Plans are already underway to ensure that the national team starts residential camp as soon as possible. With the help of the government, we want to organise friendly matches with strong national teams from either Uganda or Tanzania to ensure that the national team is well prepared ahead of their clash against Kenya,” added Ntagungira.
Recently, Ferwafa appointed former SC Kiyovu and Nyanza FC coach Antoine Rutsindura to manage the national women football team.
Most players are expected to be drawn from reigning national league champions AS Kigali, APR, Urumuri and The Winners.
Rwanda’s last competitive game was in 2009 against Uganda in the preliminary round of the World Cup Qualifiers, which they lost 0-1 at Stade de Kigali, Nyamirambo.
