THE NATIONAL U-20 team takes on Primus national league side Police FC in a warm-up match this morning at Ferwafa grounds in Remera.

Richard Tardy’s team will use the game as part of preparations for this year’s Francophone Games, while Police will be in a pre-season preparatory mood ahead of the start of the new season on September 21.

For the first time, Rwanda’ football team will make its first appearance in the Francophone Games, which are scheduled for September 6-15 in the French city of Nice.

“Police will test our readiness for the Francophone Games. I am looking forward to the game,” Tardy told Saturday Sport yesterday.

Rwanda will be making the debut in the football competition. It is drawn in Group D with the hosts France, Congo Brazzaville and Canada.

Last weekend, the U-20 team drew 1-1 against Peace Cup against Malaria champions, AS Kigali, while Police FC drew 2-2 with Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) FC in their first pre-season match.

Some of the professional players, who might be included in the U-20 squad include Belgium-based defender Jean Marie Rusingizandekwe [Marines], Alfred Martin Mugabo [Arsenal reserve side] and Bon Fils Kabanda [Nancy-France].

Apart from football, Rwanda will also field competitors in other sports such as cycling, athletics, swimming, boxing and cultural events. Francophone Games are held every four years.
