RWANDA’S veteran long distance runner, Dieudonne Disi has continued his career-revival by winning the 15km Martigues Carro race over the weekend in Nice, France.

Disi clocked 51 minutes and 37 seconds to bag a gold medal, beating Algerian Hedi Bouazzaoui and Kenyan Paul Omuya, who finished second and third respectively.

After winning gold, Disi said, “It’s good that I have won the race but it was not easy.  It’s a good comeback and I am looking forward to positive performances in the coming days.”

The Martigues-Carro race victory comes a month after Disi finished fourth in the 2013 Bll Maybank Bali Marathon in Indonesia.

Ever since Disi left his administrative role in the Rwanda Athletics Federation last year, the country’s most successful athlete has been holding intensive preparations in Kenya and competing in different races.

Last year, he was hoping to compete in Lille Marathon where he was targeting to clinch an Olympic slot but things didn’t go his way as he missed out on qualifying.

Disi last participated in an international competition in 2010 during the Delhi Commonwealth games.

He is hoping to revive his career and be able to represent the country in one of the upcoming international championships before the end of this year.
