Ethiopia has withdrawn from the upcoming 2014 FIVB Sub-zonal World Championship sub Pool I qualifiers scheduled to start on July 25.

Ethiopia has withdrawn from the upcoming 2014 FIVB Sub-zonal World Championship sub Pool I qualifiers scheduled to start on July 25.

Ethiopia has joined Sudan, the first country to pull out early this month.

The Rwanda Volleyball Federation Chairman Gustave Nkurunziza told Times Sport yesterday that Rwanda will face Egypt in a two-day tournament due to be staged at Amahoro indoor stadium.

“The first match will be played on Thursday and the second will be played on Friday. Even without the presence of Ethiopia and Sudan, we expect to host a good tournament,” added Nkurunziza.

The absence of Ethiopia and Egypt means that both Rwanda and Egypt have qualified automatically for the Zone V championship due in November in Kigali. The top three teams in Pool ‘H’ which is made up of Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi and Uganda will join the duo in the tournament.

The top three teams will qualify to the final round which will determine Africa’s representatives to the World Championships in Poland.
