Jean Baptista Hakizimana, the third-ranked East African golfer is using South African golf courses to prepare for the upcoming KCB Kenya Open as well as the Asian Tour.

His training stint in South Africa which started on July 7 will end on August 7, before he heads to Nairobi for the KCB Open planned for August 8-11.

Hakizimana told Times Sport in a telephone interview from South Africa, “I am training hard despite the cold weather which affected me in the first few days,”

“I am targeting to stage good performances in this year’s KCB Open as well as the Asian tour. I have requested permission to compete in some local tournaments here to competitively improve my level but I have not yet gotten any feedback,”

“My mission is to win the KCB Open due in three weeks though I believe it will not be an easy task before heading to Asia in late August where I will compete in 12 golf tournaments that make up the Asian golf tour from September to December,” added Hakizimana.

Hakizimana who will be the first Rwandan golfer to compete in the Asian tour this year, will be marking his third appearance at KCB Open. Last year, he finished ninth overall after a 4-day tournament.

Recently, Hakizimana finished fourth in Burundi Open before securing a second-place finish in the Kabale (Uganda) Open.

In Asia, he will be with Ugandan top player Deo Akope and Kenya’s Grey Snow. It will be the second time golfers from the east African region participate in the Asian tour but it will be the inaugural participation for Rwanda. The tournament is aimed at producing a future generation of champions.

Hakizimana’s trips to South Africa, Kenya and Asia are sponsored by Falcon Golf Country Club based in Muhazi, Kayonza district and Tele10.
