AFTER guiding Burundian champions Vital’O to their first Kagame Cup title, Coach Yaounde Kanyankole has penned a one-year contract deal with Primus league club SC Kiyovu. The club’s chairman Norbert Sendege confirmed the development yesterday. He said, “We have appointed him as the head coach for a period of one year with a possible extension depending on both parties,”

“His main task is to help the club win the Primus league title next season,” added Sendege.

Sendege added that SC Kiyovu will not chock under financial difficulties like last season because they have got support from Nyarugenge District which has promised to foot salaries for their players.

“We will be able to sort out other necessities since Nyarugenge District has promised to cater for players’ salaries. We are ready to bounce back and lift the spirits of this club,” added Sendege.

The 59-year old tactician who is already chasing the signature of former Police striker Laudit Mavugo on a two-year contract is set to bring along three Burundian players whose identities are yet to be known.

SC Kiyovu who are set to start pre-season training over the weekend have spent 20 years without any league trophy.

Kanyankole previously coached Rayon Sports before moving  to Burundi where he guided Vital’O to a number of league titles and regularly qualified for the CAF Champions League.

This year, he helped them oust 13-time Rwandan league champions APR in the preliminary round of the Caf Champions League and also edged the military side to lift the Cecafa Kagame Cup title in Darfur, Sudan this month.

In 1999, he was in the technical team that helped Rwanda B win the only Cecafa Challenge Cup.
