The eight-time champions, National University of Rwanda beat the Institute of Agriculture, Technology of Kibungo (Inatek) 3-1 on Sunday to take the outright lead of the volleyball league.
The Huye-based side leads the league with 28 points, two ahead of debutants INATEK.
Fidele ‘Fidjo’ Nyirimana’s team won the game at their home in the National University Gymnasium and later added Rusumo High School 3-0 on the causality list in Group One.
This year’s league season has produced a few surprises, where anyone can beat anyone. In Group Two, Lycee de Nyanza, who beat INATEK last weekend 3-0, were themselves shocked 3-0 by youthful side Group Scoraile de Butare.
Lycee De Nyanza coach Leo Fidele Mutesi said, “It is good for our league because it shows that we have strong teams and we have good players and a competitive league. But on other side, I am not happy with the performance of my team.”
In Group Three played at Amahoro Indoor Stadium, hosts Kigali Volleyball Club lost to defending champions APR 3-0, while St Joseph lost against former champions KVC 3-2 and APR 3-0.
NUR is leading the league with 28 points; INATEK follow with 26 points, same with APR, while Christ Roi is on bottom with 10 points. The league will continue on round sixth at the weekend.
