A 25-year old WOMAN died instantly after a retaining wall succumbed to rain and crashed her house, in Nyarugenge.

According to the neighbours, the tragedy was caused by a three metre-high retaining wall behind the room in which the victim, Louise Tumukunde, was taking a nap on the fateful day.

The incident happened during a Wednesday afternoon downpour in Tetero village, Kamuhoza cell of Kimisagara sector, Nyarugenge district. The victim’s husband Diogène Niyitegeka, was allegedly leading prayers at Saint Pierre Parish at Kimisagara.

Jean Damascene Hakizimana, the head of security in the village, said the family just relocated to the house few months ago.

Hakizimana said this was the second time a wall built at that spot gave in, though during the first incident no life or property was lost.
