Over 1,700 to graduate at ULK 9th ceremony

Kigali Independent University (ULK) will today pass out 1,797 during its 9th graduation ceremony.

Kigali Independent University (ULK) will today pass out 1,797 during its 9th graduation ceremony.

According to the University Rector, Dr Ezekiel Sekibibi, students will be graduating in various disciplines such as sociology, population studies, financial management, international studies, development studies, economics and accountancy.

“We are very happy with the students graduating. They have shown a high level of discipline and their performance was amazing. All the best for them as they take the next step,” Sekibibi said.

According to him, students from the last editions have made the university proud since their research shows that most of their students are now employed and performing well.

According to the rector, this shows a job well done and they are satisfied with the product they are putting on the market.

Clash of realities

Noel Nkurunziza, a sociology  graduand, said it is a dream come true. He has been waiting for this day like “a Christian waiting for Jesus Christ to return.”

“I am so excited about graduation, it’s a dream come true for me. I am so proud to be among the many Rwandans with a degree,” Nkurunziza said.

However, despite the excitement of graduating, Nkurunziza, like any other graduand, has his own worries. He is so worried about what happens next after school, especially finding a job.

“I am so scared of hitting the street because according to history, it’s not a good place to be, I hope God makes a way soon,” Nkurunziza said.

Since its inception, ULK has passed out more than 17,000 graduates and are looking forward to increasing the number as time goes on, said the rector.
