RWANDA’S top seeds Jean Claude Gasigwa and Dieudonne Habiyambere lead a strong four-man team which will compete in the 2013 edition of Uganda Open Championship which gets underway today at Kampala Club Courts.

Other players on the team include Olivier Nkunda and Mubarak Harelimana. They have all been undergoing rigorous preparations at Cercle Sportif de Kigali.

Gasigwa, formerly the tormenter-in-chief for local tennis players, had a near perfect expedition in Uganda which was only broken by Duncan Mugabe and current Uganda Open champion David Oringa, who beat the Rwandan star in the two previous tournaments.

The two youngsters are being tipped to meet once again this year in the final.  The week-long tournament received a boost of Ugshs 40m (about Rwf10.6m) from sponsors Nile Breweries under their brand Castle Lite.

The two youngsters met in the ‘Best of the Best’ tennis tournament last month with Mugabe overcoming Oringa in three sets.

On top of the Rwandan, more foreign players are expected to come from Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Burundi.

The winners in both the Men’s and Ladies will walk away with a trophy and cash prizes of 2.5million [Rwf.600, 000] and 2million [Rwf480, 000] respectively.
