Ministry launches ICT drive in public sector

The Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT) has launched a campaign to create public awareness on how increasing ICT usage can offer efficient services.The campaign was launched at the police headquarters in Kacyiru, yesterday. “Normally people are supposed to know the role of ICT but we reserved this little time to remind them the benefit of offering ICT-based activities, starting from officials at this briefing,” said Jean Philbert Nsengimana, the Youth and ICT minister.Participants included personnel from the Ministry of Internal Security and its affiliated institutions such as the Rwanda National Police and the Rwanda Correctional Service.“All people’s deeds have to be ICT centred as it is a key pillar to sustainable development,” Nsengimana said, adding that ICT will expedite services in the public sector.Participants were enlightened on key projects such as e-Governance programme, which they were told to use as a guiding tool for their daily activities.Social mediaIn addition, the participants were urged to incorporate the use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, among others, to share news faster.“Social media is not for young people as many may think. For example, a problem can be identified and solved through a mere tweet,” Nsengimana said.“As security organs, we use ICT in our daily work. We need more insight on it to effectively meet our assignments,” said Mussa Fazil Harerimana, the internal security minister.
