Taking full advantage of a large home crowd at Amahoro Indoor Stadium, the National Volleyball team humbled D.R.Congo with a 3-1 set victory to win this year’s World Refugee Day (WRD) top prize .
The game was the highlight of the global event which was jointly organised by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the local volleyball governing body, FRVB.
Dressed in blue and white jerseys, the national team got off to a positive start claiming the first set on 25-15. However, the home team lost grip of the second set (23-25) following back to back poor serves that brought the Congolese back into contention and increased their confidence.
At this point, Rwanda’s Lawrence Yakan who also features for APR volleyball club rose to the occasion with a number of unstoppable spikes that left the Congolese blockers short of options.
