DENOMINATORS are the 2012 champions of the 18th Genocide commemoration football tournament, which was organised by Eto’o Foundation.

The two-week limited age (17 and under) tournament, which attracted eight boys and four girls teams, climaxed on Saturday with Denominators dominating hosts Eto’o Foundation in both categories.

Denominators boys beat Eto’o Foundation 3-1, while the girls won their final clash 4-1.

On the final day, the Mayor of Kicukiro district, Paul Jules Ndamage, said, “It’s a pleasure for our district to host such a tournament being organised by young people to commemorate the victims, especially children, who lost their lives in 1994 Genocide.”

Eto’o Foundation boys reached the final after eliminating Authentic International Academy 3-1 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in quarter-finals and saw off Des Amis 1-0 in the semi-finals, while Denominators defeated New Jerusalem 2-0 in quarter-finals and Hirondelle 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in the semis.

The girls of Eto’o Foundation reached the final after a 5-0 win over Authentic International Academy in semi-finals while their final opponents, Denominators, booked their place in the final after eliminating AS Kigali Academy 3-1 in semi-finals.

The tournament was in its second edition, and it’s the second time the organisers (Eto’o Foundation), founded by 18-year old Fabrice Ndayisaba, lost in both finals.
