APR revived their hopes for a quarterfinal slot at this year’s Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championship after Saturday’s straight set victory over VC Tonnere of DR Congo.

The army-side who lost to defending champions Zamalek on Friday crushed the Congolese side 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25 13) in 62 minutes.

APR’s spiker Lawrence Yakan led the side’s assault with 17 points while Claude Kwizera also proved a valuable weapon for Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye’s side with his impenetrable blocks.

The victory took APR atop of pool B with 5 points, one more than defending champions Zamalek who are second.

After their day one victory over APR, Zamalek improved their win-loss ratio to 2-0 after another convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-15) display over Prisons Service of Nigeria.

Defense Force of Ethiopia finally registered their first victory of the championship after a 3-0 set victory over VC Tonnere of RD Congo.

Meanwhile, GSU of Kenya and Al Ahly of Egypt are the first sides to secure quarterfinal tickets after bagging their third straight victories in their respective Pools.

In Pool D, GSU beat Sonel of Cameroon 3-1 (27-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16) while eight-time record champions Al Ahly of Egypt silenced Chlef of Algeria in Pool A after a thriller 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19) victory.

In Pool A, FAP of Cameroon are also within touching distance of a quarter-final slot after thumping South Africa’s Liberte 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-16).

Ahly Tripoli of Libya stayed atop of Pool C after a well deserved straight sets victory over Inter Club (Congo Brazzaville) 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-21).
