Dear editor,

The Foreign aid has been part of African countries economies for many years. The objective of this aid is to help African countries fight poverty and enhance economic development. Though African countries are acquiring this aid, they still remain poor and fail to overcome poverty.

This means that poor countries cannot stand alone without the help of foreign aid. Begging money from the World Bank and rich developed countries has become the order of the day. This has led to a vicious cycle of poverty that is quite difficult to break. Those countries that have chosen to stay clear of foreign aid, have only ended up in economic failure as is the case in Zimbabwe.

Whenever there is problem, instead of money being handed over on a silver plate, policies that encourage these countries to use their raw materials to generate income should be encouraged. This slowly helps countries to be free from foreign aid and become independent.
