SPORTS institutions have been implored to develop marketing strategies to attract sponsorship.
The call was made during a two-day retreat which attracted officials from the Sports Ministry, Federation heads and sports journalists at La Palisse Gashora.
According to Emmanuel Bugingo, the Director of Sports in the Sports Ministry, federations need to develop marketing and communication strategies to lure corporate bodies into bankrolling events.
“We discussed many things one of them being the need for federations to come up with strategic action plans,” Bugingo said.
Over the years, sports federations have found it hard to entice sponsors, something the ministry blames on poor marketing skills.
Till date, the national football league and cricket league are the only tournament with regular sponsors.
