As Huye District authorities move to restrict hawkers from doing business on the streets, authorities should make efforts to find feasible alternatives like creation of hawking zones to enable them work in a regulated manner. We should appreciate that street hawking is a concern of every Rwandan.
Arresting the hawkers and confiscating their goods only worsens the situation. In my view, such are just piecemeal solutions instead of getting to the root of the problem.
Let’s appreciate that these hawkers, too, have families to look after.
