SILVERBACKS will open their CAR15s title defense against last year’s losing finalists Burundi on October 9 at Amahoro stadium.

The week-long tournament will run from October 9-16 and will involve three teams in Rwanda, Burundi and DRC.

Tanzania and Seychelles pulled out yesterday.

After weeks of preparations, Silverbacks Coach Gerald Nsenga is expected to name his final 20-man squad tomorrow.

“The selection process is not going to be easy because everyone has been in good touch but that’s how things work, you still have to leave out some players,” Nsenga said.

Meanwhile, the local rugby federation (RRF) is still struggling to raise the Rwf 16m budget needed for the tournament.

“We expect Rwf 6m from CAR (Confederation of African rugby Federation) and the balance to come from the Sports Ministry and other corporate companies but we have not received any confirmation till date,” a worried Nsenga said.
