AS KIGALI Coach Thierry Hitimana has declared his intent to push for a top four finish in the forth-coming 2011/12 Primus league season.

Last season, the Kigali City Council side finished 7th but a semi-final appearance in the Peace Cup wowed many fans while also silencing their critics along the way with some stunning performances throughout the competition including victories over both Etincelles and Marine.

Like many other sides, AS Kigali has been active in the transfer window following a spending spree which has included the signings of Mahmud Kabura (attacking midfielder), two defenders; Jean Mkamba and Ngirinshuti Mwemere and two strikers in Claver Muhire and Pablo Nduwimana.

“In all fairness, the players should be commended for putting up a tough fight throughout the entire season. Sometimes, we were not consistent enough but there were still plenty of positives to write about,” Hitimana, who joined in the second half of the season, noted.

The former Rayon Sport and Kiyovu midfielder also disclosed that Patrick Rutayisire would be wearing the captain’s armband this season.

The goal keeper takes over from Egide Rutayisire who has been linked with a move to Kiyovu.

AS Kigali chose not to renew the central defender’s contract because of indiscipline.

The league kicks off September 17.
