In the Tuesday issue of The New Times, I was pleased to read the article titled. “Teenage girls acquire skills in fighting abuse”.
Girls were for long neglected and exposed to abuse, due to discriminatory traditions among the traditional communities. However, the Government in close partnership with various organizations stepped up campaigns to empower the girl child.
This has not only empowered them, but also helped them have hope as they now look forward to being future leaders in various domains. But the struggle goes on. Protecting girls is still as vital as ever.
It is the right thing to do as well as beneficial to the community in general, as demonstrated in their role in the country’s development process.
I would also like to appeal to the men who mistreat girls to stop. It is barbaric and the law will catch up with them.
