JEAN CLAUDE Gasigwa claimed the second leg of the ITF/CAF money circuit prize money after beating Kenya’s Dennis Ochieng in the final played yesterday at Umubano hotel courts.
After losing out the first leg crown to fellow colleague Dieudonné Habiyambere last Saturday, Gasigwa went into the second leg with something to prove.
The third seeded players needed one hour to dispose off Ochieng in straight sets6-2 6-2 thus winning the trophy and $800. Ochieng took home $540.
In the women category, Kenya’s Caroline Odour avenged her first leg defeat by trouncing home favourite Gisele Umumararungu in the final 6-0, 6-2.
The Rwandan top seed was below average and didn’t have any answer to her Kenyan opponent’s powerful serves. She was consoled with $540 for second-place.
The week-long tournament was been sponsored by the International Tennis Federation and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.
