The Mayor of Monrovia, the Liberian capital, Mary T. Broh has said that Kigali represents a model city in Africa.

She made the remarks, yesterday, after paying a courtesy call on her Kigali counterpart, Fidele Ndayisaba, at his office.

“Kigali is a model city in hygiene and sanitation and it should be a learning centre of excellence for all African countries," she said.

Mayor Broh who is in the country to attend the third African Sanitation and Hygiene Conference (AfricaSan 3) was impressed by the city’s clean streets and  green scenery.

“The cleanliness is a big a lesson to take back to Monrovia,” she noted.

“Kigali is the fastest growing city in Africa. I am very happy to have met the Mayor and see how we can plan to twin both cities.”

Ndayisaba agreed to the idea saying that both countries share similar challenges and a troubled past, adding that the twinning program would help to build a strong partnership.

“Through this partnership we are going to assist each other in finding solutions to the challenges we face in managing our cities and also learn from each other," he said.

Broh has been the Mayor of Monrovia since 2009. She is known for striving to keep the City of Monrovia clean and green.
