Continental hygiene summit kicks-off

Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza is, today, expected to officially open the third African Sanitation and Hygiene Conference (AfricaSan 3) in Kigali. The three-day high profile meeting is expected to forge a way forward towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals on sanitation and hygiene.

The three-day high profile meeting is expected to forge a way forward towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals on sanitation and hygiene.

“The Prime Minister is expected to officially open the conference in an event that will start (today) in the afternoon,” James Sano, the coordinator of water supply and sanitation in the Ministry of Infrastructure revealed.

The summit is being attended by 33 African Ministers charged with sanitation and hygiene while over 800 local delegates are also expected at the conference. Other keynote participants expected at the conference include the Unilever Global Social Mision Director, Dr. Myriam Sidibe, CEO of Water and Sanitation Program Sam Parker and Unilever Sub-Saharan Africa Marketing Director, Juliet Ziswa among others.

South Africa’s superstar, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, is scheduled to stage a live performance at the conference. She is currently the UN goodwill ambassador hand-washing.

Besides the performance, Chaka Chaka is expected to urge participants to create more initiatives to help mothers in Africa safeguard children’s health.
