According to Mitali, technicians from the Ministry of Infrastructure have been tasked to mastermind plans to expand the stadium to about 50,000. The stadium currently seats 30,000.
“The plan is to carry out the expansion in phases because the stadium will also be used for other activities,” Mitali noted. The move is timely as Rwanda prepares to host the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Following Caf’s move to switch the tournament to odd years, CHAN will now be held in even years.
The government is also up grading and expanding Huye stadium to a capacity of10.000 from 5000. Muhanga stadium will also be expanded to accommodate 15,000.
