KARONGI – The Rural National Program for Water and Sanitation (PNEAR) has allocated over Rwf 1.3 billion towards the implementation of water and sanitation programs in 15 districts countrywide.
The development package will ensure access to clean water, construction of modern hygienic latrines and other sanitation facilities for poor families.
Districts that will benefit are located in the Northern, Southern and Western Provinces. This was revealed yesterday during a joint consultative meeting where residents of the three districts of Rutsiro, Ngororero and Karongi were encouraged to support the program.
“We intend to create awareness so that the beneficiaries take the initiative to help us implement the program,” Francois Ngarukiyintwari, a PNEAR official in charge of the Western Province said.
In Karongi, 433 kilometres of piped water will be installed. Bernard Kayumba, the Mayor is optimistic that his residents will be able to improve their social and domestic wellbeing.
